Youth Cinema Project

Paper airplane made from film strip above bold text reading “Youth Cinema Project” in black.

We’re proud to partner with the Youth Cinema Project (YCP)an impactful in-class filmmaking program developed by the Latino Film Institute and founded by Edward James Olmos. YCP brings film industry professionals into classrooms to mentor students as they write, produce, and edit original films from concept to final cut.

This hands-on experience builds more than technical skills, students develop confidence, creativity, collaboration, and storytelling ability, all while meeting California academic standards. The program also nurtures social-emotional growth, helping students find and share their unique voices.

Over the years, our student filmmakers have created an impressive collection of short films that reflect their experiences, passions, and perspectives. From writing scripts to running cameras and editing scenes, they lead every step of the process.

We’re proud to showcase their work below. Each film is a powerful example of student voice in action and a reminder of what’s possible when young people are given the tools to create and express.
